چکیده

Background: Acute respiratory tract infection (ARTI) is the leading cause of paediatric hospitalisations in India, especially ≤5 years age. Aim: The study attempts to investigate RSV disease burden under-five and any association between NP carriage viral ARTI. Methods: This was conducted from 2019-2020 Chennai (South India) on hospitalised children with ARTI, 1 60 months Multiplex real-time PCR employed nasopharyngeal (NP) samples (n=256) for pathogens including syncytial virus (RSV) Streptococcus pneumoniae (SPN). Results:). Viral positivity 81% 48.6% respectively. co-infections were evidenced about a quarter positive children, common being human parechovirus RSV. Fever, high rate, severe distress, cough, difficulty breathing, chest indrawing bronchiolitis significant clinical findings Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine uptake (89.4%) subjects yet 31.87% vaccinated had pneumococcal carriage. 75% those SPN ARTI which 35.6% positive. We observed statistically (p<0.05). Antibiotic usage suspected versus non-RSV 68% 93.8% Conclusion: Significant < 5 age, acute infections.
